Well…writing this kind of sucks because it means I have to talk about the weight that I gained when I was pregnant…which I really want to just avoid and forget about. It’s embarrassing. Despite working out throughout my pregnancy and eating reasonably healthy (except for the first trimester crazy cravings…eek!) I managed to gain a whopping 65lbs. O.M.G. When I was pregnant I was HUNGRY! My appetite was in overdrive. I felt like a bottomless pit. So despite my best efforts to eat well and stay active, the weight piled on me. So now, I’m 10 days postpartum and down 25 lbs down, with 40 to go to get to my pre pregnancy weight. This sucks. I’ve never been so heavy in my LIFE!
So why am I telling you this? I think it’s important to be honest and transparent. As a fitness coach, you’d think I’d gain the recommended 25-35lbs and lose it in less than 6 weeks. Shoot I wish that were the case. I’ve got a long road ahead of me until I get down to where I feel comfortable, but I guess it’s all a part of the journey. I’m trying to embrace my own advice and feel good about myself NOW, and not when I lose the weight, but it’s hard. We were taking pictures with our precious baby boy and I was having such a hard time looking at myself in the pictures. It doesn’t look like me…
What now? I’m going to continue to breast feed, eat healthy and go on daily walks until I get the ok from my doctor to exercise. Then I’m going to ease myself back into working out. It’s ok if I don’t lose the weight right away…I’ll do my best and forget the rest, as Tony Horton says. I know myself and my body, and I know that I’m very prone to injuries if I jump into a routine too fast or go too hard. So I’ll be working my way up to where I was when I got pregnant.
This wasn’t easy to write, but again, I think it’s important for you to know that I struggle too. I’m not perfect. Gaining weight during pregnancy stinks…but I am blessed to have a beautiful, healthy boy…and I’m going to focus on that right now =)
Did this help you? If so, I would really appreciate it if you comment below and share on Facebook!
I gained 50 pounds and its been a struggle getting it off. My daughter is 8 months old and I still have 20 to be back at preprego weight. But hey, I’ve lost 30!!!
Wow way to go! I gained 80! Yup 80 pounds when I was pregnant with my daughter down 40. My daughter is now 10 months old. Wish I had the drive and resources you have in the beginning of my weight loss journey!
I gained 90 lbs with my first child (I know! ). When she was about 15 months old I had had it and decide up was time to get back to me! I was working out, eating right and feeling great until suddenly I wasn’t because I was now expecting baby 2!. I was terrified! I can’t gain another 90 pounds! So I surprising made it through the whole pregnancy gaining only 15 lbs. Then I started gaining after I had him, despite breastfeeding, which turned out was attributed to a 3rd pregnancy when my new baby was only 3 months old. So I gained around 30 with my 3rd (between gain and loss somewhere around 110 lbs in 3 years). I’m coming to terms with my image and although I’m accepting it for now but I’m determined to lose it no matter how much time and change on my part it takes. I follow your fb page and your busy mom challenges really inspire me. Thank you for showing us a realistic approach to fitness and encouraging mom’s like me to get back on the horse 🙂
No worries girl–I know how easy it is to do that! I probably would’ve gained that much but in the 3rd trimester I really started to track what I was eating. You don’t need to accept it–you can change! Obviously I want you to feel beautiful where you are right now–because you are! But know that it IS possible to get your body back =) If you want my help and participate in a supportive group please don’t hesitate to reach out!!
Hiiiii! I’m Rachel. I lost 80 pounds after I had my son and now help other moms get their bodies back! I'm obsessed with: adventure, champagne, chocolate, peanut butter, and yoga pants.
