How to Eat Healthy AND Save Money on Vacation

Vacation is usually a time when you throw all of your healthy eating to the side and indulge…at least that’s what I used to be like!  Travelling is tricky, it’s stressful, and it can be very expensive!  I recently went to Las Vegas for our annual Beachbody Coach Summit and requested to have a fridge.  We went to the grocery store and spent about $25 per person on food for the week.  I went out to eat ONCE and got a SALAD for $35…and it didn’t even fill me up!  These tips will definitely help you eat healthy and save money on your next vacation!

Tip 1: Call ahead and ask your hotel if you can have a fridge in your room.  This way you can either bring your own food or go grocery shopping, have fresh fruits and veggies without worrying about them going bad! Many hotels are happy to accommodate this request.

Tip 2: Go shopping! Find out where a grocery store is close by and load up on some goodies! If you have a fridge, some ideas are: hummus, pre cut veggies like carrots, spinach, apples, packets of oatmeal, granola, peanut butter, beans (look for cans that don’t need a can opener), some places have cooked edamame, hard boiled eggs, tempeh, whole grain bread, almond milk, bananas, etc.

Tip 3: Be prepared! I always pack my mini $15 hamilton beach blender, packets of Shakeology, workout dvds and workout clothes.  Plan on staying active on vacation! Walk as much as you can and get your workout done in the morning.

Tip 4:  Plan on eating 2 meals a day in your room.  Get enough food for breakfast and lunch, and then for dinner you can venture out to a local restaurant.  I recommend checking out the area on a website like happycow.net and then see if they have a menu online so you can see if they have healthy options available.

I hope these tips can help you eat healthy and save some money on your next trip!
