I get this question a lot–how do I manage to workout 5-6 times a week with a 3 month old?

It’s not easy. It requires a lot of flexibility on my part. TJ is FINALLY getting into a good sleeping routine (hallelujah!!!!!!) so I think it’s going to get better.

Every day is different at this point. Some days I’ll be able to wake up and feed him, then put him in a bouncer and workout while he watches me. Some days I’m too tired to do this! What seems to be working right now is having him in the bouncer right before his nap time (around 12) and having him watch me.

Sometimes he just doesn’t want to. Yesterday was a rough day. After 20 minutes he started getting really fussy. Usually when he does that I can distract him with toys, or I’ll literally workout right in front of him and play with him in between every exercise. He didn’t want any of that yesterday though so I had to stop, feed him, then get back to it.

Sometimes I’ll get to workout during his nap time–that’s if I’m not taking a nap too =)

Some days I’ll ask daddy to help when he’s around. I’ll feed TJ, pass him off to Alphonse and do my thing. This doesn’t happen often though.

I’m hoping that once TJ gets into a solid routine I’ll be able to get more rest at night and wake up earlier to workout before he wakes up. Until then, I just play it by ear.

Don’t let having little kids be an excuse to skip your workout! I KNOW it’s not easy–but it CAN be done! Tell yourself you’ll workout 7 days/week. Plan on doing that. More than likely, there will be a day or two in there that will just be too hard to get it in.

If you’re just getting started working out, a good place would be to take your baby on walks. I love doing this if we’re both up before it gets too hot–if I start after 8:30 then we’re both miserable after 10 minutes. I guess that’s life in Florida in the summer =)

I want to hear from you! Have you found a solid routine that works for you?
