Losing weight is HARD. I’m not gonna sugar coat it. If it were easy, everyone would be at their ideal weight. It is hard. But how do you stay motivated when you have a LOT of weight to lose? Well, speaking from experience, I’ll say that the best way to do it is to set mini goals for yourself, keep those goals in front of you, and celebrate your progress along the way.
Every time I noticed a change in my body, I got excited. My pants started fitting better. I had more energy. Those are little things that I noticed that motivated me to keep going—even when I didn’t feel like it.
What’s your WHY? If you’re going to do something that’s hard, you need a big why to keep you going. Is it to be healthy and active for your kids? To feel attractive for your spouse? What’s YOUR reason for losing weight? Write it down, make a vision board, do SOMETHING that is going to keep you focused on that goal.
Surround yourself with positivity. Listen to positive audio. Find friends who are into fitness and are going to encourage you to keep going (meetup.org is great!).
Create some accountability for yourself. I think the reason why the people who participate in my Lose the Baby Weight group are successful is because they have people to turn to when they have a rough day. They have encouragement and support—so that giving up isn’t an option. This one part is critical. If you’re trying to do this all on your own, you’re most likely going to struggle. Having a group of people to help you stay motivated is key!
You tell me! How do you stay focused and motivated to keep going when you really don’t want to?
