Smoothies are a GREAT way to get your fruits and veggies in, plus they can be a super fast and nutritious meal on the go. Don’t be fooled by smoothies at restaurants or chains like Jamba Juice…most of them have a TON of sugar in them! Make them yourself at home to save money and calories.  Here are my tips on how to make a healthy smoothie!

What you will need:
a high powered blender
liquid
frozen fruit
veggies like spinach, kale, or romaine (optional)
protein powder, tofu, or nuts
add ins like chia seeds, flax seed, cacao nibs, wheat germ, etc. for an extra boost of nutrition (optional)
sweetener like stevia, honey, or pure cane sugar (to taste)
ice

Here is my basic smoothie recipe:
1 cup almond milk (can substitute soy, coconut, or regular milk if you prefer)
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 frozen banana
1 scoop protein powder
tbs natural peanut butter
couple drops of liquid stevia
cup of ice

Another one of my favorites
1 cup almond milk
1 frozen banana
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (or shakeology)
1 tsp cacao nibs
1 tbs cacao powder (if not using shakeology)
1 cup ice

Another one just for fun =)
1 cup almond milk
1 cup frozen pineapple
1/2 frozen banana
1 scoop protein powder
handful of spinach
1 cup ice
1 tbs flax seed

Last one =)
1 cup greek yogurt
1/2 cup orange juice
1 scoop protein powder
1 cup frozen mixed berries
1/2 cup frozen mango
1 tbs coconut oil
1 cup ice

Honestly, the combinations are limitless =) Play around with different fruits, protein powders, add ins and see what you like! Feel free to use more liquid, more ice, etc. to find out what you like best! I like to have smoothies right after my workout to help my muscles grow and refuel my body.
