I’ve had quite a few people ask me about my last blog post and the ‘refugee diet’ that I’m going to do Sunday-Tuesday.
WHY do I want to do The Refugee Diet and what is it all about?
The Rules are Simple:
Live on the kind and amounts of food that a refugee at a United Nations camp in Eastern Chad lives on for 3 days.
Tell everyone about it =)
Donate (if you feel led) the money that you WOULD have spent on food those 3 days (or a little more) to your organization of choice. I’m giving here: http://gifts.rescue.org/product/rebuilding/refugee-farmer-market-kits
Not a whole lot!
In Chad, it amounts to:
3/4 cup of grain sorghum or millet
2 Tbs of mature seeded lentils
Just under 2 Tbs of cooking oil
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
After cooking, it will come out to be about 3 small bowls of food…for breakfast, lunch and dinner. YUM.
Will you be hungry? Uh, yea! That’s a given.
Is this a crash diet? NO. This is NOT meant to be a diet or weight loss program. The whole point is to raise awareness to what others around the world have to go through on a DAILY basis. This is NOT A SAFE WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT.
Be SMART. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, have blood sugar issues, or have any other reason to think that this may be be good for you, consult your doctor. But it’s not like refugees in Eastern Chad got an ok from their doc before they got put on this diet…obviously.
Why just 3 days? I don’t want me or you to pass out. I am going to TRY 3 days. I think I’ll be fine…but please listen to your body.
What’s the point in all of this?
TO SPREAD THE WORD. So don’t be shy. Pin the pic on this page. Share this blog post. Tell other people what you’re doing.
