healthy-travel-tipsI’ve been on the road a LOT lately…we just got back to the States from France, I spent the weekend in New York for my friend’s wedding, then I’m heading to Florida on Wednesday for a conference. There’s more, but I’ll just say that I’m traveling like a mad woman.

It’d be really easy for me to depend on convenience foods and forget about my goals—but I’ve learned over the years that it just takes a little bit of prep work, then not only will I be able to stay on track, but I’ll save a TON of money too!

Watch this video to see how I pack for a trip:

Some of the things that I bring are:

I also packed enough food for my day of travel in a cooler, including asparagus, chicken sausage, greek yogurt, macadamia nuts, and a quest bar.

But it doesn’t end there =)

One can’t live on snack food alone lol! When I’m at the destination, I like to do a little research to see what’s nearby to eat! Ideally, I’ll have a hotel that has a small kitchen—but that’s not always possible. I’ll typically at least request a fridge in the room—sometimes they’re included, sometimes they charge a small fee—but it’s still cheaper than eating out every meal!

If I have a kitchen, I’ll go to the closest grocery store and stock up on all of our meals for the stay. I’ll always get eggs, greek yogurt, lean protein (like chicken, turkey burgers, or shrimp), rolled oats, and veggies!

If I don’t have a kitchen, then I’ll see what food delivers to the hotel (assuming I don’t have a car).

In this video, I talk about the two apps that I use for food delivery—Favado and Grubhub.

Here’s one of my fave breakfasts that I made in the room–the hotel breakfast was $16! Heck to the no! This tasted like chocolate brownie batter and kept me full for hours!!

And there’s more =)

If I’m at the airport and it’s meal time, I’ll walk the terminal to see what’s available, then if the calorie counts aren’t on the items or menu, Calorie Count or My Fitness Pal usually have the stats, or just directly on the restaurant’s site.

On the way back from NYC, I stopped at Au Bon Pain and grabbed a Chicken Cobb Salad. I checked the stats and it was a high protein option. After looking at the nutritional info for the dressings, I determined it wasn’t worth the calories, and I also skipped the bread.

Well, those are some of my nutrition tips!

As far as exercise goes, I’ll do one of my workouts in the hotel room using BOD, or I’ll go to the gym at the hotel! I’ll also try to walk as much as possible and stay active!

If you follow these tips, not only will you stay healthy, keep your energy levels up, save money, you’ll probably lose weight on vaca!
