Oh, sugar. How I love to hate you. I have the BIGGEST sweet tooth. Something that I’ve had since I was a little girl! My mom told me when I was two I stole a whole box of donuts and took off with it lol. I could’ve polished off nearly an entire tray of brownies, chocolate, or, just SUGAR. I used to grab giant spoons of frosting from the jar, and even eat straight up tang with a spoon! Ah! So when I talk about breaking a sugar addiction, you can trust that I’ve been there!!!!

First of all, know that the more sugar you eat, the more you crave it! So the BEST way to quit sugar, is to STOP EATING SUGAR.

Easier said than done though, right?

Here are some of my best tips for breaking your sugar addiction!

1. Drink WATER. And only water. A lot of times our bodies confuse hunger with thirst, so staying hydrated is key. Diet soda does NOT count. Drinking diet soda actually makes you crave MORE sugar. So no juice, soda, energy drinks, vitamin water, sweet tea, or any other beverage that contains sugar. WATER.

2. Eat fiber rich foods throughout the day. Don’t let your body get SO hungry that you want to eat a house. I try to eat foods that contain a mix of fiber and protein every 4 or so hours, but if you aren’t hungry, don’t force yourself to eat. An example of some meals I eat are in my free eBook, you can get it at flatbellysolutions.com

3. Keep sweets out of the house! I buy chocolate RARELY, because I know when I do, I usually eat too much of it. If you’re the kind of person who can take a tiny square and that’s all you eat, more power to you. You can have chocolate in the house lol. But if you have a tiny piece, and then devour the entire bar, you need to keep it out of the house. That’s not to say you can NEVER have it again, just limit yourself to special occasions when you’re out of the house.

4. Don’t be so hard on yourself. If you overdid it, that doesn’t mean that you ‘ruined’ your diet, and you might as well eat more and give up. NO. You are human, and you just ate a little bit too much. It happens to me too! Just make better decisions at your very next meal–not tomorrow, not Monday, not January 1st–your next meal!

5. Get support! I run a weight loss support groups every month, and we are there to help each other with our sugar addictions, as well as eating the RIGHT foods, in the right portions, exercising, and more! If you want more info on that, just email clientcare@fitwithrachel.com =)

You CAN quit sugar, believe that you can do it! I believe in you!
