I have a slow metabolism….and it makes it hard for me to keep my weight down. Can you relate to that? Oh how I wish I could have my husbands metabolism that keeps him at .05% body fat without even trying…not fair!! But for us regular folk…how can we speed things up? Here are 7 tips to speed up your metabolism.

 

1. Workout. Your body will burn calories during your workout…and continue to burn calories after.

2. Lift weights! Muscle burns fat! The more muscle you have, the more calories you’ll burn without even trying. Don’t be afraid to lift HEAVY…don’t worry ladies you won’t get bulky!

3. Do HIIT training. High interval intensity training will boost your metabolism and calorie burn. You’ll burn MORE calories after a HIIT workout for longer than a steady state cardio workout. This can be as easy as 30 seconds high intensity sprinting (or fast running…whatever you can do!) followed by 30 seconds-minute of recovery. My favorite HIIT workout is Turbo Fire!!! So much fun!!!

4. Eat often. When you eat small meals throughout the day your digestive system is moving and your body burns more calories. Make sure to track your calories so you don’t over do it! And EAT BREAKFAST!!!

5. Eat protein! Your body burns twice as many calories digesting protein as it does carbohydrates.

6. Drink 3 iced drinks a day–water, coffee, or iced tea (unsweetened). Caffeine boosts your metabolism! Adding ice to it boosts it even more since it forces your body to work harder to warm up, burning energy.

7. Add in short bursts of exercise throughout your day. When you exercise, you wake up your muscles and your body starts burning calories. This could be a quick walk around the block, taking stairs at the office, dancing around your house, etc.
