Today I want to talk to you about something that is near and dear to my heart. Cancer. The big C. It seems like everyone has been affected by this disease in one way or another. Maybe you know someone who has had it, maybe you have had it, maybe someone close to you has passed from it. Regardless, this is a topic that needs some discussion.
I’ll tell you a little bit about myself and why I am interested in learning about cancer PREVENTION. My mother has had cancer 3 times. Yes, 3! She had thyroid cancer after having my brother and then myself, and then when I was in highschool she had colon cancer and had to have surgery to remove part of her colon. She is healthy now, thank goodness, and has been very proactive about her health.
All of my grandparents have also passed from cancer. My dad’s parents died before I was even born, my grandmother when I was in junior high, and my grandfather when I was in college.
Obviously, this is an issue worth learning about!
What I want to talk to you about is how YOU can significantly REDUCE your risk of cancer. Yes, I understand that there are many forms of cancer that are hereditary. I get that. BUT I also know that so many cancers are developed because of our lifestyles, specifically our diets.
Look at the American diet today. With all of the sugar, processed foods and fast food, there’s no wonder that so many of us are developing diseaseses. Where are all of the fruits and vegetabls? The foods that give LIFE?
I’m telling you, that if you change your diet, you can change your life. You can significantly reduce your risk of developing cancer. Start by cutting out any and all processed foods. Stop eating and drinking foods with ingredients that you cannot pronounce. Buy your fruits and vegetables organic. Have you seen how they spray pesticides on your food? The people spraying the chemicals are wearing masks and protecting themselves, why should you eat the food that they’re spraying that stuff with? Increase your intake of raw fruits and vegetables. Cooked veggies are OK, but raw is so much better. A ton of the nutrients get lost during cooking so eating raw is best! Consider adopting a vegan or flexitarian diet. I know, this isn’t for everyone which is why I think flexitarian is the way to go for many people. If you haven’t read the China Study or seen Forks Over Knives, then you’ve got some research to do.
Essentially, you want to create an environment in your body that does not foster disease. Fruits and vegetables are alkaline forming in the body, while meats, dairy, processed foods and sugars are acidic. What does that mean? It means that disease thrives in an acidic environement. By eating alkaline forming foods, your body is going to be much healthier and have a lower risk of developing diseases.
Do your research and figure out the best way that you can nourish your body so that you are creating an alkaline environment. I want you to be healthy and feel your absolute BEST! I want you to THRIVE!
