So we all know that working out is good for us, right? But, as with all things, moderation is still important! You CAN workout too much.

People ask me what my workout regime is all the time—and to be honest, I normally don’t follow a specific program. I try to move my body throughout the day, go on walks as much as the Florida heat allows, and do some strength training and lower impact cardio throughout the week. So if I were to honestly tally up the amount of time I spend ‘working out’ (not including walking), it’s probably 2 hours/week or less. For real! A lot of people think that in order to lose weight you need to run on the treadmill for hours on end. That can actually backfire!

What happens when you workout too much?

* overuse injuries
* osteoarthritis
* increased inflammation in the body
* stress on the immune system
* decreased efficient fat metabolism
* increased cortisol in the body (stress hormone)
* increased oxidative damage
* you get hungry!

So does this mean that I want you to sit on your rear all day long? NO! I want you to try and get as much low level aerobic work into your day as possible and sit as less as possible. So WALK, and walk often! Park further away from the store and walk a few blocks to get there. Take the stairs. Go for a hike. Take a bike ride with your kids. Then a few times a week do some strength training and one or two days a week do an intense (but short) cardio workout, like turbo fire or T25. If you do this, AND you’re eating clean, you’ll lose weight, feel great AND be healthier.
