The scale doesn’t tell the whole story. It’s true! The scale can be a liar…which is why some people can definitely benefit from ditching the scale. I’m not going to say everyone should do it—I know that I like to weigh myself pretty much daily since it helps me stay on track—but some people find that to be frustrating. If that’s you, read on.

Here are 5 Reasons Why You Should Ditch the Scale:

1. It can create frustration!!! If you’re eating healthy, working out, and NOT seeing those numbers go down, it can be SO FRUSTRATING. Have you lost inches though? Are your pants a little looser? Do you have more energy? Those are real victories!

2. Your bodyweight fluctuates so much! If I weigh myself in the morning, and then again in the evening, I could easily be 3-5 pounds heavier. Us ladies also fluctuate a lot that time of the month. Why put so much faith in something that can change so much?

3. You could be gaining muscle! If you’re strength training (which you absolutely should be doing), there’s a good chance that you’re putting on muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, but takes up less space.

4. You may have unrealistic expectations of what you should weigh. I remember in high school we had to do some sort of project in science class where we had to write down what we weighed (only God knows WHY she had us do that). I remember one of the boys in front of me weighing less than I did and it made me feel awful (forget the fact that I was at least 6 inches taller than him).

5. Some people are just built differently. I’m tall and have muscle mass, so the likelihood of me weighing less than 160 pounds is unlikely (or unhealthy). I’m ok with that. As long as I fit in my clothes and I feel good, I’m happy.

If you’re going to ditch the scale, here are some other ways you can track your progress:

– Measurements.
– How you clothes fit
– How much energy you have
– How your progressing in your workouts
